During the festive opening evening of the World Pair Driving Championship on Wednesday, August 20, the Dutch horse takes center stage in all its glory. Alongside the Frisian horse and the harness horse, the Gelder horse shines in a special show full of flair, rhythm, and Dutch pride.
Dutch Class in Motion
In a specially curated performance, Marcel van Bruggen showcases what the Gelder horse is capable of with some of his stallions: under saddle, on long reins, and in harmony with Dutch-language music. The Gelder horses Odin, Edmundo, and Raffael K create an impressive ensemble that perfectly fits the Dutch theme of the evening. The choreography is accompanied by recognizable Dutch songs, giving the show a lively and contemporary character. “It has to shine,” says Marcel van Bruggen with a smile. “We want to show the audience that the Gelder horse is not just a piece of heritage but also very much alive — versatile, strong, and stylish.”
A Dutch Horse with a Rich History
The Gelder horse is a proud part of Dutch breeding heritage. Originally developed as an all-round working horse for farmers and citizens, the breed today proves itself as an elegant riding and driving partner with great presence. The show in Beekbergen dynamically illustrates this development in a setting accessible to young and old alike. The Gelder horse show is part of an evening program that also features the Frisian horse, the harness horse, and the Royal Stables Department in prominent roles. Besides live entertainment, visitors can enjoy a spectacular race act with a special guest and a festive finale by the Crazy Pianos On Tour.
